The Wahiawa Middle School Math Counts Team, under the
direction of Cheryl Oishi and Thomas Lee, placed 10th overall out of
28 schools from around Oahu. The competition challenges students to complete
complex and difficult math problems both individually and as a team.
Example
A: If three flicks
are equivalent to eight flecks and six flocks are equivalent to four flecks,
how many flocks are equivalent to 12 flicks?
Example B: Six black chips have
been placed on the game board shown. What is the sum of the numbers in the two
squares where the seventh and eighth chips must be placed so that each row
contains exactly 2 chips and each column contains exactly 2 chips?
