Rock Cycle (With Candy!)

A fun activity to try out is to represent the three different types of rocks with candy.

Candy that works well include: Hi-Chew, Starburst, Gummy Bears, Tootsie Rolls

You'll also need wax paper, aluminum foil, a toaster, and scissors (optional)

Setup
Choose three types of candy, and get three of that type. (For example 3 Red Gummy Bears, 3 Tootsie Rolls, and 3 Apple Hi-Chews.)

Sedimentary Rock
1) Break down the candy by cutting it, ripping it apart, breaking pieces off of it.
2) Place the pieces in layers one on top of the other.
3) Wrap it in wax paper, and then in aluminum foil.
4) "Gently" push together.

Metamorphic Rock
1) Place the candy on top of each other.
2) Wrap it in wax paper, and then in aluminum foil.
3) Heat it in a toaster oven for about 3 minutes.
4) Mash it together.

Igneous Rock
1) Place the candy on top of each other.
2) Wrap it in wax paper, and then in aluminum foil.
3) Heat it in a toaster oven for about 10 minutes.

Open them up, observe, and enjoy!
